So, why me?

I am a Board Approved Supervisor for LPC and LMFT and I am also working towards my AAMFT supervision license, a national designation that requires supervision of supervision. I receive supervision of supervision with Dr. Arnold Slive. Together we have almost 35 years of practice! Also, I provide clinical supervision to graduate student interns through Capital Area Counseling, providing more valuable collaboration with fantastic community resources.

I can’t tell you how excited I am to offer clinical supervision for LPC interns and LMFT associates. I believe that one of the ways our community can provide the best services to clients is through positive collaboration and support to new and current therapists. I value our work together as one that ultimately creates a stronger, more vibrant community.

In selecting a LPC/LMFT Supervisor, I believe goodness of fit is one of the most important pieces to a successful collaboration. As a strengths based, collaborative, and Outcomes-Informed therapist, so to is my approach to working with supervisees. And I believe that the the supervisee-supervisor relationship, is the most important factor in facilitating clinical growth and development.

When I reflect on why I am so passionate about therapy (and supervision!), I always come back to my unwavering love of people and our human condition. It’s so interesting when you consider how paradoxically unique we are, yet so very similar in so many ways. And strong, collaborative alliance creates space to discuss and evaluate a variety of therapeutic techniques, skills, and interventions.

I endeavor to support those I supervise, whose success is my success, and whose growth and development requires compassion, clinical knowledge and experience, as well as support.

Requirements for Supervision

Masters or PhD in counseling or psychology from an accredited university and completed all coursework and practicum as required by the LPC/LMFT Board.
Completed and passed your national exam.
Have a place to provide counseling services.
State supervision contract and an individual contract with me outlining expectations.
Your curriculum vitae and 2 professional references including your practicum supervisor and current LPC supervisor, if applicable.
Release of information to consult with your previous supervisor, if applicable.
Obtain professional liability insurance for a minimum of 1 million/3 million coverage.
Complete and mail your application for temporary licensure, Practicum Documentation, and the Supervisory Agreement Form along with a copy of your supervisor’s license to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors.
Be prepared to wait four to six weeks before your application is approved and you can begin practicing.

What can you expect from me?

Support, support, support. Evaluation, support.

I provide weekly supervision in either individual or group setting. I provide feedback on counseling techniques, interventions, diversity, ethics, communication techniques, private practice building, and gender and sexual diversity. I review documentation and case notes as needed, provide formal and informal evaluations to help foster and develop your own self-evaluation. With a focus on your strengths, I offer support for the development of your professional identity and theoretical orientation. And I am also available for consultation in crisis situations.

My approach is a passionate advocacy of YOU; of your beliefs and values as an therapist. As a supervisor, I’d say my approach is fairly gentle, yet direct, inquisitive, solution-focused and collaborative. In other words- “it’s just you and me, kid.” We’re a team.
